Update from North Yorkshire Council

The council’s local plan consultations are open for another 3 weeks. Many thanks to everyone who has made comments so far, it is really appreciated. As a reminder we are consulting on the following two documents:

North Yorkshire Local Plan: our first conversation, May 2025 – We are asking for your views on the priorities and issues the North Yorkshire Local Plan can help address.

Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report, May 2025 – Sustainability Appraisal is a legal requirement to assess the economic, social and environmental effects of the local plan and to monitor its impacts. Both of these are available on our consultation portal –

There is still plenty of time to comment, but please remember that comments need to reach us by Tuesday 15 July 2025 at midnight.

In response to some queries we have updated the What You Need to Know (FAQs). We have also updated the content on the front page of each consultation, including adding the short video to help get you started.

For anyone who wants to know more about what a local plan is, why we need one and what this consultation is about we have the Plan on a Page.

More help with how to submit comments and details relating to this consultation are provided on the consultation portal.

As a reminder printed copies of the consultation documents are available at council offices and libraries within the local plan area. To find the nearest location to you please refer to How to Respond.
