Castle Howard is one of the best and most famous stately homes in England. With it’s inspiring history, and wonderful architecture, it has often been used as a film set for dramas and historical documentaries.  However for those of us who  want to walk around the grounds, and only catch glimpses of the great house, it is just as enjoyable.

Terrington is lovely and oozes that quintessentially English character so beloved in the books of Jane Austen. The land around Terrington gently rolls through farmland, some fine woods and an attractive section of riverside.

Sherriff Hutton walk

Length: 8.5 miles

The ruins of Sheriff Hutton’s Neville Castle dominate this walk throughout, sitting as it does on a slight rise and still containing some impressive high walls.

The lands are largely farming lands but with excellent views across the Vale of York. It is good walking country with a fine network of paths.
